GOODWILL SOCIAL WORK CENTRE CASE STUDY |
|
|
Overview
The Goodwill Social Work Centre, a professional social
work organization deeply committed to the development of
children, youth and women was founded by a professionally
trained Social Worker in November 1981. It is located in the
temple city of Madurai, India with the prime objective of
performing a wide spectrum of roles in the development of
children, youth and women and undertaking a comprehensive
action through professional approach with a preventive,
curative and rehabilitative perspective. It aims at
utilizing positively the scientific methods of Social Work
for problem identification, problem solving and problem
prevention for the multifaceted development of children,
youth and women who are at a disadvantage.
The Situation
The Goodwill Social Work Centre from its inception 25 years
ago always strove to aid as many people as it could. With
the development of information technology, Professor Daniel
realized the potential to further solidify the expansive set
of services the Centre offered the Indian community.
However, the cost of such technology was prohibitively
expensive for the Centre to afford. The Centre also needed a
higher level of presence in order to achieve its fundraising
goals.
With the recent tsunami disaster, the centre’s needs were
magnified by the exponential increase in requests for
assistance. Professor Daniel turned to The Malian Foundation
for assistance.
The Solution
Through the Malian’s Foundations Empowering Communities
Program Goodwill Social Work Centre has improved its
operations and management structure. The Management
Collection provided a variety of pre-made forms to sign up
new volunteers and creative new ideas through the Management
Series. The Technologies Collection provided software that
allowed volunteers to access necessary information without
internet access and office productivity software allowing
the distribution of flyers to affected areas.
Using services provided by Consulting Program, the Centre
possesses an online presence and representation of the
organization’s tsunami efforts within Australia.
